In 1998, PRIMERA Technology Inc. was founded as a "spin-off" company from FARGO with DTM as a German distributor. From the beginning of March 1999 Primera Europe has operated under license by DTM. Primera is headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota, USA, and distributes its products in over 85 countries. Sales, service and technical support for European customers is enhanced by Primera Technology EUROPE, located in Wiesbaden, just outside of Frankfurt, Germany.

Primera products are manufactured in Plymouth, MN, USA, and at an overseas facility in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Primera was founded several years ago on a tradition of innovation by the same management team that built FARGO Electronics Incorporated into a respected, world-class printer manufacturer. The management team at Primera technology is responsible for the design, manufacture and sale of over 1 million dot-matrix, thermal transfer and ink-jet specialty printers.
